Prothoracicotropic hormone

The prothoracotropic hormone ( PTTH ) is an insect hormone. Chemically, it is a homodimer of two peptide chains, each consisting of 109 amino acids.

PTTH is secreted by two cell groups in the brain of insect larvae. As glandotropes hormone it controls the secretion of the steroid hormone ecdysone, and thus growth and metamorphosis of the animal.
