Proton Putra (1995-2000)

The Proton Putra is a small coupe that was built by the Malaysian carmaker Proton. Production began in 1995 and ended in 2000. From 2004 to 2005 she was admitted for a short time again, with the limited number of vehicles was offered only in the domestic market. Construction

Body and chassis

The car is based on the 1991 built until 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer and is a two-door coupe, the front of the Wira and Satria of the first series corresponds. The tail, however, is self-contained, only the rear lights are similar to those of the Satria, or the Mitsubishi Lancer.

The car is nearly completely the Lancer, both in styling and in the mechanics; even headlights and taillights are interchangeable between the two models. The Putra is however equipped with the four-cylinder DOHC engine 4G93 and has different front fenders and bumper, so that the indicators are not interchangeable.

Interior

The interior of the Putra includes Recaro N -Joy seats, a four-spoke steering wheel Momo Daytona and a leather shift knob Momo. In the re-release these details were not included, but the internal configuration corresponded to the other proton models and was black.

Motor

The Putra is powered by a four-cylinder in-line engine from Mitsubishi, type 4G93P driven, which has two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Fed is the engine of a multi-point injection (MPI). The engine capacity is 1834 cc and the power 140 hp ( 103 kW) at 6000 min -1. The torque is 164 Nm at 5500 min - 1 and the fuel consumption at an average of 6.2 l / 100 km.

Export

In the UK and Australia, the Putra was offered as a Proton Coupe or Proton M21 but the car sold there not very good. Similarly, in Germany, where it was marketed as a proton 418 LRS 1998-2001.

The Putra was once considered boring in design and corresponded to the older Mitsubishi Lancer (1992-1995), as he was known to the Australians, and also to drive uninteresting compared to other fuel- zigeren cars such as the Ford Puma and Vauxhall Tigra said.

Private modifications

Because of its small number of pieces of Putra in Malaysia is highly sought. Some enthusiasts have modified his front with " Halfcuts ". The M21 can be equipped with any engine type Mitsubishi 4G9x or 4G6x.
