The Proton Wira (also proton 400) is built by the Malaysian car manufacturer Proton as a four-door notchback and five-door hatchbacks since 1993. The Wira was intended as a new alternative to the Saga Iswara, a revised version of Proton 's first model, the Saga, as the top model in the compact class. The saga has been regularly revised slightly to 2008. Then, a second generation was, this time as a small car, brought out.

The Wira was later replaced by two self-built Proton models. The GEN • 2, which was introduced in 2004, should replace the hatchback Aeroback. The Persona, released in 2007, was intended as a successor to the sedan. The Waja in 2001 should inherit the Wira saloon, but rather tends to luxury model of the brand, below the Perdana.

" Wira " means to Bahasa Malaysia as a loan word from Sanskrit "hero".

History

The Wira was introduced in 1993 as a four-door saloon and was based on the Mitsubishi Lancer 1992, but had a slightly different design. The headlights are from the Mitsubishi Colt 1992, the taillights of the Mitsubishi Galant station wagon from 1987, the bumpers from the Mitsubishi Mirage and the instrument panel has also been modified. The front view continued the line of Saga Iswara. In 1994, a five-door hatchback (initially under the name Wira Aeroback ) to do so.

Proton originally conceived mid -1990s, even a small five-door estate based on the sedan with the same taillights as the first revised Wira. This development came to light, as in a local newspaper a scrapped prototype behind the Proton assembly plant in Shah Alam was mapped. After then hardly gave any information about this model, it is assumed that it is never gone beyond the concept stage.

In 1995, the Wira was revised and got a new grille and slimmer tail lights. In early 1999 followed white indicators. In mid-2004, there were further small changes to the grille and on the bumpers. Despite these minor upgrades the design of the Wira basically remained the same over ten years.

Proton Wira 2004, the Special Edition ( also Wira SE) a. It should be about 100,000 of them made , but this sales target has been missed. The SE models were brought out at different times of the Wira Aeroback Modellzyklusses as variants and had sporty accessories, such as body packages, revised interiors and on request also aluminum spoiler.

Many Proton models that were presented according to the Wira, had a front design that was derived from that of the Wira. Below are the hatchback Satria / 300 of the first generation, the two-door coupe Putra and the pickup arena.

As a successor to the Wira Proton designed the GEN • 2, a station wagon, which carried the code name " Wira Replacement Model ," and brought him out in 2004. In August 2007, the Persona, a new sedan based on the GEN • 2 and was regarded as the legitimate successor to the Wira appeared.
