Protopriest

The office of cardinal proto priest (also called " protoprete " or " primoprete " ) is an honorary post for the longest-serving cardinal priests. He is primus inter pares its cardinal class. From the 16th to the 19th century, the function was often associated with the titular church of San Lorenzo in Lucina, where occasionally the title holder " protoprete " was, although he was not the senior cardinal.
