Providence is an American drama series that was erstausgestrahlt January 1999 to December 2002 from the television network NBC. In Germany, the series was shown on the TV channel VOX.
Action
The focus is on plastic surgeon Dr. Sydney Hansen ( Melina Kanakaredes ). A family crisis takes them from Los Angeles back to their homeland - to Providence, Rhode Iceland. After her mother's death ( Concetta Tomei ) Syd decides to practice for as a general practitioner in a small clinic and to take care of her family. These are her sister Joanie ( Paula Cale ), which has just had a baby but no husband; her half- brother silken Robbie ( Seth Peterson ), an irresponsible daredevils and swindlers; and finally Syd's father, Dr. Jim Hansen (Mike Farrell ). This is a veterinarian and operates - as Sydney's childhood - a small practice in the basement of his house. He gets along with his four-legged patients usually far better than with people, especially when the latter are related to him.
Problems are programmed. Nevertheless, the Hansen clan always manages to zusammenzuraufen somehow - not least thanks to a steadfast and very direct humor. However, when it threatens to chaotic - or too idyllic - to be, time and again, resolute, deceased mother turns. Lynda Hansen, it can not be put to interfere in all family matters and always openly speak their minds in the hereafter. Dr. Sydney Hansen
No question about it - Sydney Hansen has everything you could ever want. She lives in Beverly Hills, in the most beautiful district of Los Angeles. With the necessary talent and a large amount of ambition she has made a name in the world of the rich and famous. But after countless facelifts, operated nose and sprayed lips pulling Syd a line under their posh lives in LA. Their desire for a stress-free existence, a failed relationship and her mother's sudden death were the trigger to return to her family in Providence. Once there, she realizes where she belongs in truth. Sydney quickly finds a job in a small local hospital. There they treated people who do not have the option to pay their health insurance themselves. Sydney's help and support is taken by the whole family mercilessly claim. She quickly noticed that suddenly everything rests on their shoulders. Syd is on one side of a very tough and strong woman, on the other hand, however, very vulnerable. She puts so much energy into the problems of others that they do not realize their own situation. After her mother's death, she is a great support for all family members.
Joanie Hansen
Joanie (actually Joan ) is Sydney's younger sister. The only reason for their upcoming wedding is not to be overlooked: Joanie expecting a baby. But as the wedding pops, it Joanie decides to raise her daughter alone. During the day she works in the " Barkery ", a self-invented store where she sells baked goods for dogs. Much to her sister Joanie Sydney has an ambivalent relationship. On the one hand she adores Sydney, on the other hand, it often feels discriminated against and not enough attention from her. However, they did not realize that she is loved and admired by Syd least as much as vice versa. Joanie is sensitive, vulnerable and full of emotions. She listens to her heart more than her mind what her so many times disastrous.
Robbie Hansen
Sydney's little brother is a real go-getter. Robbie (actually Robert ) knows how to get to the quick money. Usually you see him with beautiful women at his side. He is cunning, adventurous and a villain as he is in the book. But deep inside Robbie is a very kind-hearted guy. One can in good conscience rely on him - most of the time.
Lynda Hansen
Lynda it up to his ears in preparations for the wedding of her daughter Joanie, but when the wedding ceremony finally starts, it dies in the church of a heart attack. For all family members, this is a big shock. However, when it threatens to become chaotic, it appears again and again in Sydney's dreams. Jim Hansen

But over time he slowly comes out of his shell and discovered brand new, how beautiful life can be.
