Providenciales

Providenciales is an entity belonging to the Turks and Caicos Islands, which is colloquially usually only called Provo. It is the westernmost inhabited island in the Caicos Islands. Providenciales with its long beaches and coral reefs is a luxurious tourist destination that boasts 350 days of sunshine per year. The island has an area of ​​98 square kilometers and is inhabited by around 32,100 people (estimate 2012).

Before 1960, Providenciales had only 500 inhabitants. In 1966 a company was given permission to lease state land. As a result, Providenciales developed to populous island of Turks and Caicos. Provo is today the economic and tourist center of the region. The Providenciales International Airport is the largest international airport in the Turks and Caicos islands are served by the five other islands.
