Province of Brabant

Brabant was a province in the geographical center of the Kingdom of Belgium with headquarters in Brussels. The area was 3,358 km2. She was the only province that extended over three language areas and regions. The province's name referred to the historical Duchy of Brabant.

The province was created in 1815, initially under the name " Südbrabant " after the Kingdom of the United Netherlands was ( 1815-1830 ) due to the decisions taken at the Congress of Vienna agreements associated with the House of Orange. 1830 separated the southern part of the kingdom, the hereinafter referred to as the Kingdom of Belgium, but was only recognized in 1839 by the Netherlands.

The province was (part of the Flemish Region ), and Walloon Brabant divided ( part of the Walloon Region) as part of the federalization of Belgium in 1995, along the border between the Dutch-speaking region in the north and the French-speaking region in the south in the provinces of Flemish Brabant. The Brussels-Capital Region took over the provincial powers and has been the province free.
