Province of Fermo

The Fermo Province (Italian: Provincia di Fermo) is the fifth province in the Marche region. The capital is Fermo. The province was introduced by law in 2004. In June 2009, the first elections were held for the Provincial Council. The Fermo province includes 40 municipalities ( communes) a, has 176 488 inhabitants (January 2009) and an area of 860 km ².

The territory of the province of Fermo is bordered to the north by the province of Macerata and belonged from 1861 to 2004 the province of Ascoli Piceno.
