Province of York

The Province of York is one of two ecclesiastical provinces making up the Church of England, and consists of 14 dioceses that comprise the northern third of England and the Isle of Man. York was raised in the year 735 to an archbishopric, the first Archbishop Egbert of York was. Later, the Archbishops of York also claimed Metropolitan authority over Scotland, but these claims were never implemented and extinguished it, when the Archdiocese of St Andrews was formed.
