Proxyshare

ProxyShare is a closed-source file sharing program for Windows that offloads the files offered for exchange to the proxy server of the respective ISPs of the user. This very high speeds come about. Meanwhile, there is version 3 of the program in the initial phase.

Operation

Most Internet service providers offer their customers a proxy server, which should cause by caching speed advantages "surfing ". ProxyShare uses those latches to target selected by the user to store files there. Other users can then download the files theoretical maximum speed. If the file is not completely transferred to the proxy, but is already requested by a user, the user gets the already uploaded parts from the proxy and the rest directly from providing USER. If users of different ISPs want to swap files, they are exchanged between the proxy servers of the ISPs. However, this is done at low speed.

This web cache feature is also found in many eMule mods.

Assessment

A detailed discussion on the Gulli board casts doubt on the professionalism and motivation of the authors of ProxyShare arise.

ProxyShare is a product of Globalnet Inc., and it is claimed that the program contains no pop-ups, banners, spyware or adware. The business model is thus unclear. Licenses Also used are not mentioned.

The problem is the separation of the actual program core ( " Core" ) and the user interface ( "GUI "). ProxyShare not use a self-created interface, but an open source version called " Sancho ". The communication between the core and the surface, however, seems to be very buggy.

Versions

ProxyShare was already given several times in order to be subsequently resumed.

ProxyShare1 (2003)

The first version was released in 2003, but was soon discontinued it again.

ProxyShare2 (2004)

The basis for version 2 were the experiences from the project to version 1 but since only the old one - useless - code has been developed, the second attempt had to be stopped.

ProxyShare3 (2006)

In April 2006, version 3 was released, which was rewritten according to the developer. As the official website is no longer accessible since 2 June 2008 can be assumed that ProxyShare3 was adjusted.
