On May 2, 2010 The Times reported on concrete plans of the company to shift its focus to Asia. According to the Wall Street Journal on May 3, 2010, the company has confirmed the plan to buy the Asian insurance group AIA (American International Assurance ), and on the other hand denied that it intended to sell its UK operations. The purchase plan could, however, by the deadline not be implemented because the UK regulator the Financial Services Authority has so far not consent. Since a definitive agreement on the purchase price could not be obtained, the transaction is aborted without success on 1 June 2010.
