Psalm 79

The 79th Psalm ( Greek- count of 78 ) is a Psalm of Asaph and grouped according to the number of people Lamentations.

A possible structure of the psalm is as follows:

Dating

The psalm is usually set at the time of the Maccabean emergency under Antiochus IV dated. The description of events in the first book of the Maccabees fits exactly to the description in Psalm. There is talk (1 Macc 1.20 AU) from that of Antiochus.

This profaned the sanctuary, as described in the first verse of the psalm. 1 Macc 1.36 EU:

"From the ambush they threatened the sanctuary; always they were a worse enemy to Israel. "

This a bloodbath, as described in the third verse of the psalm. 1 Macc 1.24 EU:

"He taught a bloodbath and led quite presumptuous speeches. "

This ensures that Israel's faith was ridiculed, as described in the fourth verse of the psalm. 1 Macc 1.39 EU:

"Your Sabbaths were ridiculed; instead of being honored, she was despised. "
