Psalm 89
Psalm 89 is a psalm of Ethan, the Esrachiters and is the last psalm of the third psalm book.
Structure
The Psalm can be divided into the following sections:
- Sela -
- Verse 6-15: Then he praises God's power, justice, and mercy (Ps. 89.6 to 15 SLT)
- Verse 16-19: He describes the people whose glory and strength of such a God ( Ps 89.16 to 19 SLT)
- Sela -
- Verse 39-46: He talks about the contradiction of the present and in the federal commitments verses 20-38 (Ps 89.39 to 46 SLT)
- Sela -
- Verse 47-49: Etan asks how long this state should last and describes the shortest of life ( Ps 89.47 to 49 SLT)
- Sela -
- Verse 49-52: He asks God to spread his new mercies over his people (Ps 89.49 to 52 SLT)
- Verse 53: The whole thing concludes with a eulogy and a twofold amen (Ps 89.53 SLT)
