Pseudotriakidae

Slim smooth dogfish ( Gollum attenuatus )

The Pseudotriakidae (Size: pseudes = false Triakidae ), are a small consisting of only four described a previously undescribed and an extinct species of the family ground sharks ( Carcharhiniformes ). There are little explored deep-water sharks that occur at depths 129-1890 m on the sea floor, the continental shelf and continental slopes. The largest species, Pseudotriakis microdon is widely used in the world's oceans, while the smaller species in the Western Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific have very limited distribution areas. In the South Atlantic and the eastern Pacific sharks of the family Pseudotriakidae missing.

Features

The species of the family are small to large (56 to 295 cm ) and have a rounded head with a more or less elongated rostrum. Before the elongated, cat -like eyes is a deep furrow. The nictitating membrane is rudimentary. Barbels or Nasalgruben are not available. The spacing between the nostrils is more than 1.5 times as large as the Nasenöffnungsdruchmesser. The long, triangular mouth extends to behind the rear edge of the eye. Papillae absent in the mouth or on the edges of the gill slits. Labial are short but always present.

The first dorsal fin is more or less long. Your base is closer to the pectoral fin base than to the pelvic fin base. Pit -like depressions in front of the tail fin missing. The lower lobe of the caudal fin is poorly developed or absent. The Pseudotriakidae are gray, brownish or blackish, with Gollum - style white Fleckungen and fin edges can occur.

As far as known the Pseudotriakidae are ovoviviparous. Two types Oophagie was found, that is, the fetuses feed on Nähreiern that were produced only as food for the offspring. The shark is thought to feed on small fish and invertebrates.

Another previously undescribed species, called by Compagno " Pygmy false catshark ," could hitherto not be assigned to the genera, but it is possibly closely related to Planonasus parini.
