Psoas minor muscle

The psoas minor (Latin for "little lumbar muscle ") is a skeletal muscle of the lower extremity, specifically the anterior ( ventral ) layer of the posterior ( dorsal) hip muscles. In humans, it is not constant, depending on the author it is formed at 30 to 50% of individuals. He is functionally grouped with the large lumbar muscle ( psoas major) and the iliac muscle (musculus iliacus ) for lumbar -iliac muscle ( Musculus iliopsoas ).

Course

Origin of the small lumbar muscle are the twelfth thoracic vertebra and the first lumbar vertebra.

It radiates with a long tendon into the muscle binding ( iliac fascia ) that surrounds him, together with the large lumbar muscle and the iliac muscle, one, in particular in the arcuate ligament ( Arcus iliopectineus ) between the inguinal ligament ( inguinal ligament ) and the iliopubic eminence of the pubis.

In quadrupedal mammals of muscle is independent of the lumbar -iliac muscle at a small bump ( tuberculum musculi psoas minoris ) on the ilium.

Function

The effect of the small lumbar muscle as a single muscle is without major significance. It causes a tension in unilateral lateral flexion ( lateral flexion ) and with bilateral tension diffraction (inclination ) in the lumbar spine.
