Psophometer

A Psophometer ( from Ancient Greek ψόφος Psophos, noise, noise ' and μέτρον métron, tool for measuring ') is a measuring instrument for detecting and quantitative evaluation of the noise of electric or acoustic signals. This can be by means of suitable signal filter weighted and evaluated ( according to CCIR or CCITT). The result of the weighted measurement is usually indicated visually or audibly to display and output as a numerical value.

Examples of measuring devices with Psophometerfunktion are the Modulation FMA and FMB of German encoder manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz (R & S) and the now no longer available Psophometer HP 3556A the American company Agilent (formerly Hewlett- Packard).
