Pszczyna Castle

The Pless Castle is a castle in Pszczyna ( Pless dt ) in Upper Silesia (Poland ), built in 11-12. Century, rebuilt several times. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Duchy Ratibor among others, Duchy of Opava and Duchy of Cieszyn. Between 1548 and 1765 it belonged to the family Promnitz, 1765-1847 Anhalt- Köthen - Pless and from 1847 to Hochberg to Pless. The castle was rebuilt in neo-Baroque 1870-1876. During the First World War, the German Emperor Wilhelm II resided from 1914 to 1917 with his military staff in the west wing of the castle. The 3rd High Command was formed there on August 29, 1916 the leadership of Upper East Paul von Hindenburg and his chief of staff, Erich Ludendorff.

Visitors can tour the historic interiors from the 19th and early 20th century in the castle today. One can also see the former apartment of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the armory. The historic farm buildings of the castle were renovated completed in early 2014 and are henceforth also open to visitors. In the future there permanent and temporary exhibitions are housed, as well as various events take place.
