Ptilidium

Ptilidium pulcherrimum

Ptilidium is a small and the only genus of leafy liverworts of Ptilidiaceae family.

Features

The plants are olive green, brownish or reddish and feathered one to three times. The edge leaves crosswise to inclined are bilobed, the ventral lobe is divided again, so that the leaves appear multilobed. The leaf margins are ciliate long. Lower leaves are present, they are smaller than the edge leaves and bilobed. The lamina cells have thickened nodular on cell corners. Are 15 to 40 oil bodies present per cell.

The species are dioecious. The cylindrical Perianthien are short ciliate at the mouth. Spore capsules are oval. Propagules are not formed.

The genus Ptilidium includes three types, two of which occur in Europe worldwide.
