Ptilium crista - castrensis

Ptilium crista - castrensis is a moss species from the order of Hypnales.

Features

The stems of the gametophytes are very feathery regularly comb - to -spring-like. They are graceful, broad lanceolate fronds that resemble ostrich feathers and are up to 15 cm long. The branches are from horizontal. The plantlets are strong and shiny green.

The Paraphyllien are broadly lanceolate. The leaves are sickle-shaped einseitswendig. They have a broadly ovate base and have moved to the forefront long subulate. The leaf margin is flachrandig. The leaves are folded lengthwise and cut to the middle. A midrib is missing or short and double. The lamina cells are elongated ( prosenchymatisch ) in the leaf blades, there are few square cells.

The capsule is curved and is almost horizontal. The capsule cap is tipped, tapered, and warty. Sporogone are rare.

Dissemination and locations

The species is widespread in the northern hemisphere and mainly populated the montane and subalpine altitudinal zone. In the lowlands it is missing. They grow mainly on weakly acidic forest soils and humus-rich rocks.
