PTS-DOS

PTS -DOS is an MS- DOS clone from Russia. Almost the entire operating system is written in assembler and therefore very compact and relatively fast. PTS -DOS differs more from MS- DOS and PC -DOS and DR- DOS, for example, has held the CONFIG.SYS file CONFIG.PTS that syntactically different from the former and more of configuration choices.

There are two compatibility modes: in one mode, PTS -DOS is optimized for maximum free memory and high system performance, but suffers from compatibility (eg, Microsoft Windows 3.x can not start ). The other so-called " Windows compatibility mode " is more compatible, but offers less free DOS memory.

PTS -DOS was originally developed by the company was founded in 1991 PhysTechSoft for the military and with the support of the Russian Ministry of Defense. After approval for commercialization in 1993 PTS -DOS 6.4 was released. After the release of version 6.5 left some programmers PhysTechSoft - allegedly for gross differences of opinion on the development strategy of PTS -DOS - took the source code to PTS -DOS with and founded their own company " Paragon " to henceforth develop their version of PTS -DOS. The result was PTS DOS 6.51CD, where some of the most serious defects of PhysTechSofts PTS -DOS 6.5 were eliminated. PhysTechSoft responded with the accusation that the entrainment of the source code infringes the copyright, and even against Russian military laws, but brought then also error- corrected version out: PTS -DOS 6.6.

PhysTechSofts PTS -DOS version 6.7 has been renamed to " PTS -DOS 2000" to FAT32 support enhanced version 7.0 then to " PTS -DOS 32 ". In addition, PTS -DOS supports 32 disk accesses via LBA and the XMS driver contained manages up to 4 GiB of RAM. In addition, required PTS -DOS 32 at least a 386 processor.

Paragon PTS DOS was offered as a " Paragon DOS 2000 Pro " and also supported FAT32 and LBA. Meanwhile Paragon stopped the development of PTS DOS, and provides the operating system also no longer, although it can be purchased from other suppliers as before including the source code.
