PTSD Symptom Scale – Self-Report Version

The PTSD Symptom Scale ( PSS -SR ) is a 17 questions from existing self-assessment questionnaire to detect symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. In the English version of the respondent must describe how frequently he is suffering from symptoms that may occur in connection with a PTSD. Three response categories are provided from 0 ( never or once) to 3 (almost always or more times a week ). The responses are summed to form three subscales:

  • Re-experiencing (4 questions )
  • Avoidance ( 7 questions )
  • Overexcitation (6 questions )

In addition, all questions can be summed to give a total value.

It is believed that a value of more than 13 are likely indicative of a PTSD, if all the questions have been answered.
