Publicly Available Specification

Publicly Available Specification, PAS abbreviated, ie publicly available specification. Although a PAS is a request from the public, but still no standard. Publication by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) but gives it a special weight. The main differences to a DIN standard exist in the following points:

  • A PAS is an agreement among the authors - without ensuring social consensus - as it requires a standard.
  • You have to be approved faster and cheaper than a standard. Just six weeks after the submission of the final text for the DIN will be published. A standardization process takes several years.
  • The responsibility for the content of the PAS is in contrast to the norm not the DIN, but from the authors.

Successor of the PAS are introduced in 2009 DIN specifications DIN SPEC. The currently valid PAS will be maintained until their withdrawal.
