Publius Sulpicius Galba Maximus

Publius Sulpicius Galba Maximus was 211 BC the Roman consul, when he defended the city of Rome against the surprise attack of Hannibal.

He was proconsul in Greece 210-206 BC and commander in the First Macedonian War against Philip V. Galba, the Roman fleet led for the first time in the Aegean Sea; he conquered Aegina 210 BC, but reached even little else, especially since the Greek allies had the largest share of the fighting.

He was dictator 203 and 200 BC, during the Second Macedonian War, he was again consul. He landed at Apollonia with the aim of Macedonia to attack from the west, struck Philip in Ottolobus, but then retired to Illyria back. Although the campaign was only a minor success, he brought the Aetolians to to ally themselves with Rome.

197 and 196 BC Galba was one of the ten senatorial Agent, Titus Quinctius Flamininus supported in Greece; 193 BC, he was ambassador to Antiochus III.
