Pubugou Dam

The Pubugou Dam ( Chinese瀑布 沟 大坝, Pinyin Pubugou DABA ) is a large dam on the Dadu River Hey, a tributary of the Yangtze River, in the district of Hanyuan the Chinese province of Sichuan in southwest China. The shut-off is a rockfill dam. The total generator capacity of the hydropower plant is 3300-3600 MW.

Construction began on 30 March 2004. During the same year the construction of 50-100,000 protestors was overrun, which delayed construction by a year. The reason for the protests were the relocations that are required by the planned flooding. There about 3000 ha of farmland were inundated, which is a tenth of the arable land in Hanyuan. 70000-100000 people had to be resettled. Chen Tao, one of the protesters, was executed in 2006.

On 22 November 2005 the dam ended the river, with the jamming began in 2009 and by year-end reached a water level of 790 m above sea level.

In December 2009, the first generator was put into operation. By the end of 2010, five more generators were taken with a capacity of 600 MW.
