Puchezh

Coup Esch (Russian Пучеж ) is a small town in Ivanovo Oblast (Russia) with 8588 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 175 km east of the Oblasthauptstadt Ivanovo on the right bank of the dam here to Gorkier pent Volga.

Coup Esch is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1594 as a village Putschischtsche documented. In the 17th century it was known for its artisanal products, colored linen fabrics ( Krascheniny ) and axes are known.

1793 was the place under the present name status Posad, effectively the municipal law. In the 19th century it developed into a major grain and linen trade center. The city was an important recruitment center for Treidler ( Burlaki ): in a population of 1000 gathered here at the beginning of the navigation period in spring to 6000 Treidler.

During the flooding of the reservoir Gorkier in the 1950s, most of the old town was flooded and built new districts on höhergelegenem area.
