Pudding Mill Lane DLR station

Pudding Mill Lane is a station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR ) in the London Borough London Borough of Newham. It lies on the boundary of Travelcard Zones 2 and 3, at the Pudding Mill Lane in Stratford district. The station opens up an industrial and commercial area to the south of the Olympic Park.

History

The single-track in this section DLR route is indeed already since 31 August 1987 in operation, but the station was only subsequently built and opened by 15 January 1996. Before that here there was only a passing loop. The station name is derived from the Pudding Mill River, a small, belonging to the Bow Back Rivers tributary of the Lea. There was formerly a watermill, which was said to be shaped like a pudding. As all other platforms were extended on the Stratford branch line to accommodate three-car trains can, under this measure remained in the station Pudding Mill Lane. Here passengers can enter or leave only two cars, the doors remain closed during the third car. Reason for the proposed new building is complete ( see below).

During the 2012 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Summer Games 2012 Pudding Mill Lane remained closed to the Olympic Park, as the station was too small to cope with the expected rush can despite the proximity.

Future

The rail project Crossrail will be 2018/19 completed and the eastern portal of the central S-Bahn tunnel will be located at the site of the station Pudding Mill Lane. It must therefore be replaced and will be built on a viaduct nearby. This measure will also allow to extend the DLR track to double track.
