Puerto Escondido is a city in Mexico on the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca. Besides the tourists, it is a destination for surfers and body boarders before all things. It has about 50,000 inhabitants (calculated 2006).

The city was discovered in the late 1950s by surfers and learned since then a moderate tourism development. Puerto Escondido is famous for the so-called Mex Pipe, a tubular shaft at Playa Zicatela, which is, together with a similar wave in Hawaii to the biggest waves of its kind in the world.
