Puerto Vallarta is located on the Pacific coast in the state of Jalisco next to Acapulco and Cancún, the most important seaside resort in Mexico, on one of the largest bays ( Bay of Banderas ) of America. In the census of 2010, the city had 203 342 inhabitants Puerto Vallarta. It is the administrative seat and largest town of the municipality of Puerto Vallarta.

About ten kilometers north - already in the state of Nayarit - Nuevo Vallarta is located, which is more or less a city hotel with a marina, golf courses and miles of sandy beach.

The old town with its promenade Malecón is reflected in the Spanish colonial style. In the 1960s, Puerto Vallarta was made famous by the filming of John Huston's film The Night of the Iguana (1963 ), in consequence of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton settled here and the international jet set applied here.
