Puget-sur-Argens

Puget -sur -Argens is a commune with 6630 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Puget -sur -Argens is located between Frejus and Roquebrune -sur -Argens in the lower Argenstal. In the north, the village is small hill that pass soon in the Esterel mountains rise.

History

In pre-Christian times, the area was settled around Puget from the Ligurian people of Oxybier that were denied, according to Pliny their livelihood mainly by piracy and therefore subjected to 150 BC by the Romans.

After the expulsion of the Saracens by William I of Provence, the town was rebuilt. March 6th 990 is now officially known as the founding date. On this day handed Riculfe William, Bishop of Fréjus, half of the village, determined its boundaries and established the tithe to be paid.

Around the year 1100, the massive castle Castrum de Pugéto was built in Puget at the site of today's viewpoint. 1203, the rule was laid over the whole of Puget into the hands of the Bishop Raimond de Capella.
