Puggy Pearson
Walter Clyde " Puggy " Pearson ( born January 29, 1929 in Tennessee; † 12 April 2006) was an American professional poker player.
Pearson grew up in a family of nine siblings in Tennessee. He got his nickname " Puggy " by a childhood accident at age 12, which earned him a misshapen nose. Pearson left school in the fifth grade and joined at the age of 17 years, the United States Navy, where he served for three years. When he was already known as one of the best pool players in the world, he became interested during his service for more poker and gambling.
Prior to 1949, were all poker games " Cash Games ", a player could therefore change at any time and go his chips into cash. Pearson introduced the idea of a freezeout poker tournament and communicated them to the players, " Nick the Greek" Dandolos. This later told the famous casino owner Benny Binion of this idea, who then founded the World Series of Poker. Therefore, Pearson can also be called the father of the poker tournaments.

Famous stories
- Once Pearson threw cards at a dealer opponent who replied with the fact that they kicked him with her high heels against the head, while another dealer held this below. On another occasion, Pearson urinated on a dealer, which was confirmed by Mike Caro on Usenet. Other poker players, however, described his appearance as relaxed and loose. Amarillo Slim said that Pearson was "soft as butter on a hot stove ."
