Puig de Randa

The mountain monastery with the village of Randa

The Puig de Randa is a 542 meter high mountain in the south of the Balearic island of Mallorca. Its distinctive shape is visible from afar and acts as a Table Mountain. It rises between the towns of Llucmajor and Algaida abruptly from the plain. This single standing mountain, at whose feet the part of the municipality Algaida small village named Randa is, rises steeply above the Mallorcan plain and can be seen from all directions from afar. Above all, the balloon-like radar dome on its top makes the Puig de Randa unmistakable.

The Randa mountain is visited not only because of the view, but also because of the three monasteries Sanctuary of Nostra Senyora de Gràcia, Ermita de Sant Honorat and Sanctuary of Nostra Senyora de Cura, located at different heights on this mountain. It is also called the "Holy Mountain" of Mallorca. After the monastery Sanctuary of Lluc, this is the second most important pilgrimage of the island.

The mountain can be hiked or achieved over the five -kilometer-long winding road from Randa. Before the entrance gate from 1682 there is a large parking lot. From the top, the view over the island to the north- west to the Tramuntana mountain range, possible in the north to the Bay of Alcudia, to the east of the Calas the east coast and south of the bay of Palma to Mallorca offshore island of Cabrera.
