The Pukaki River is a river in the Mackenzie Basin in Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand.

The river was originally from the south end of Lake Pukaki 15 km to the south, then to unite with the Tekapo River and to lead Benmore in the north end of the Lake. Today, however, all the water of Lake Pukaki is diverted into a channel which happens three hydropower plants before it empties into Lake Benmore. These investments are part of the hydroelectric project on the Waitaki River and its tributaries.

The river is now only occasionally water when the Lake Pukaki reached its highest level or channel and power plants to be serviced.
