Pulaski County (Arkansas)
The Pulaski County is a county located in the state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Little Rock. The Pulaski County is part of the metropolitan Little Rock.
Geography
The County is located in the geographic center of Arkansas, and has an area of 2092 square kilometers, of which 96 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Pulaski County was formed on December 15, 1818 from parts of Arkansas County and is one of five counties that were formed at a time when Arkansas was still a part of the Missouri Territory. It was named after a native of Poland Casimir Pulaski soldiers who saved the life of George Washington during the Revolutionary War.

According to the census of 2000, there were 361 474 people in Pulaski County. Of these, 8,253 people lived in collective centers, the other inhabitants living in 147 942 households and 95 718 families. The population density was 181 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 63.96 percent White, 31.87 percent Black or African American, 0.39 percent Native American, 1.25 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.09 percent from other races groups; 1.40 percent are descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 2.44 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 147 942 households out of which 30.5 per cent of children or young people under the age of 18 who lived with them. 45.9 percent were married couples living together, 15.1 percent were single mothers, 35.3 percent were non-families. 30.0 percent of all households were single-person households and 8.8 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size is 2.98 people.
25.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.6 percent between 18 to 24, 31.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 92.0 males to every 100 females age 18 and over, there were an average of 88.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,120, and the median income for a family $ 46,523. Males have a median income of $ 33,131, women $ 25,943. The per capita income was $ 21,466. 10.4 percent of families and 13.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
