Pulaski County (Georgia)

The Pulaski County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hawkinsville, named after Colonel Benjamin Hawkins, a hero of the Revolutionary War.

Geography

The County is located just south of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 647 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface are. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bleckley County, Dodge County, Wilcox County, Dooly County and Houston County.

History

Pulaski County was formed as the 36th county in Georgia from parts of Laurens County on 13 December 1808. It was named after the Polish General Casimir Pulaski, who was mortally wounded in the Revolutionary War at Savannah.

According to the census of 2000, there were 9,588 people in Pulaski County. Of these, 1,106 people lived in collective centers, the other residents living in 3,407 households and 2,340 families.
