Pulaski is a village in Oswego County in the U.S. state of New York in the Northeastern United States. It is adjacent to the seat of Oswego County.

Geography

Pulaski is located on the Salmon River. Highway 11 runs through the city. Pulaski is part of the Snow Belt of the five Great Lakes. Three miles to the west is Lake Ontario. The Interstate Highway I-81 leads east past Pulaski. The closest cities are Syracuse and Watertown.

History

The village was founded in 1832. Pulaski was named after the Polish -derived Casimir Pulaski (1746-1779), in Poland, member of the Bar Confederation and commander in the Revolutionary War.

In the United States Census of 2000 Pulaski had 2398 inhabitants in 1034 households. 2007 Ernest C. Wheeler was elected mayor.

Public institutions

In Pulaski is the Salmon River Fine Arts Center. With the John Ben Snow Community Complex, the village has a leisure complex with sports facilities. The village has two parks, the North Park and South Park. The Lura Sharp Elementary School and the Middle- Senior High School Pulaski has two schools.

Religion

In Pulaski members of several Christian denominations, including Seventh- day Adventists, members of the Assemblies of God, the Methodist and Wesleyan churches, the Episcopal Church of the United States of America and the Roman Catholic Church live. The Baptists are represented by three municipalities.

Economy

A major economic factor in Pulaski is tourism, particularly through sport fishing in Lake Ontario. In autumn, the Salmon River Festival takes place. Winter tourism is growing by snowmobile rides. Pulaski is connected to a higher local network of snowmobile trails. The German Felix Schoeller Group, a manufacturer of specialty papers, has a plant in Pulaski.
