Pulgasari (or Pulgasary ) is a Japanese- North Korean monster movie from 1985 in the manner of the Japanese Godzilla movies.

Action

In Korea the 14th century rebels fighting against their king and the monarchy. At a camp in the mountains gets Inde, the leader of the rebels, and his comrades in captivity. The blacksmith Takse dies in captivity. Before his death, he forms nor the small figure Pulgasari of rice, which is given to his daughter. Through contact with blood Pulgasari is alive. Pulgasari feeds on iron. After each meal Pulgasari continues to grow and becomes a metal- eating giant monster.

Background

The film was directed by South Korean director Shin Sang -ok, which was founded in 1978 on the orders of Kim Jong -il's North Korea, which was at that time under the dictatorship Jong -il's father, Kim Il-sung, was kidnapped. Kim Jong- il was considered a great movie lover and wanted to enrich his kidnapping victim, the North Korean film industry. Pulgasari is Shin Sang- ok's best-known film from his period of captivity, before he managed to escape in 1986.

The Japanese film studio Toho, which had already produced Godzilla and other monster movies, delivered the special effects for the film. Kenpachiro Satsuma, who had already played the role of Godzilla, also took on the role of the monster Pulgasari.
