The Pulitzer Prize for background reporting ( Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting ) was introduced in 1998 and replaced the former Pulitzer Prize for explanatory journalism ( Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Journalism ) has been awarded since 1985.
