Pulk

A sled, also called Nansen sledge is originally a boat of similarly designed carriage which was used by the Sami people. This is pulled by reindeer. It was built from spruce and pine boards. Similarly constructed slide molds were also built by indigenous peoples of North America. These commonly used wood bark. The Akia is used to transport the injured.

From the traditional sled with weights a weighted plastic tray developed in the 20th century. This is now used as a transport carriage for winter treks and pulled from the hikers themselves. Instead of a cable connecting a clamper is often used. This is a better straight-line stability of the carriage is guaranteed and allows a controlled braking on steep slopes. The slides used for the North and South Pole expeditions laden often weigh more than 100 kg.

Dog sled pulled by one or more sled dogs are also referred to as Grönländerschlitten.
