Pulverizer

The coal mill is a special form of the mill and is used for grinding of hard and brown coal for the coal power plant. Coal dust is used as a reducing agent for iron manufacturing ( the blast furnace ). In the mill the fuel is ground as far as that surface areas of several 1000 m per kg of fuel is achieved in order to achieve a reliable ignition of the coal in the combustion chamber.

When grinding the coal is dried at the same time within the mill exhaust gases from the associated dust firing or other combustion systems and rendered inert. The fineness of the grind is ensured by downstream classifier. Most coal mills are designed as a pipe or vertical mill. The power requirement of all coal mills used in a coal-fired power plant unit can be up 2 % of the total installed capacity.

The same types of machines a coal mill ( the tube or ball mill, vertical roller mill, sifter or separators ) are also used in the grinding of minerals ( for copper and gold ore grinding ) and used in cement plants. However, the requirements of a coal mill due to the flammability of coal dust are higher than in the milling of ores or materials in a cement plant: many machine components must exist in the EU demanding explosion protection tests. However, it is now also possible to operate the plants self - inerting, so the design effort is considerably reduced. Because of this complexity, there are few machine supplier for coal mills.
