Pulvinar nuclei

The pulvinar (from Latin pulvinar "cushion" ) joins as a large thalamic nucleus area caudal to the thalamic nuclei ( nuclei of the thalamus ) to. Under the pulvinar are the geniculate ( lateral geniculate bodies et medial ) of the metathalamus.

The pulvinar has reciprocal point-to- point connections to the association areas in the parietal and occipital lobes in. This association areas are surrounded by the somatosensory, visual and auditory primary fields and probably play a major role in linking these different incoming sensory / sensory information. Afferents receives this area from other thalamic nuclei, especially of the intralaminar nuclei.
