PunBB

PunBB is PHP-based free software to get along for the operation of discussion forums with policy and the claim to be faster and with less hardware resources than other popular forum software. It is released under the GNU General Public License. Other objectives of the development were a more economical use of graphics and the output from semantically correct (X ) HTML. PunBB achieved his goal of " lightness" especially by sacrificing functions that are not necessarily a classic discussion forum, such as a function for private messages. Instead, more programming effort is put into the optimization of the lean software. By cascading style sheets many individual adjustments of the forum without opening the actual source code are possible.

Through the concept of a "light" wBB missing the PunBB some features that are common in other forum systems, including:

  • Private messages
  • Attachments
  • Surveys
  • Advanced text formatting

However, most of these functions are not supported can be realized through the use of independently developed and easily retrofit modifications.

Requirements

PunBB is written in PHP and therefore need a corresponding PHP environment. PunBB also requires a database for the forums and posts. The software supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite.

FluxBB

In May 2008, the development team announced on PunBB because of disagreements over functions to be implemented; some of them began to FluxBB, a fork of PunBB to work. However, both teams work closely together.
