Punishment of Luxury
Punishment of Luxury, also known as Punilux was a punk and post-punk band that existed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The name comes from a painting by Giovanni Segantini.
Founded in December 1976 in the North East of England, the group released their first single, Puppet Life in the independent label Small Wonder Records, where even Bauhaus, Patrik Fitzgerald, Crass, The Cure, the Cockney Rejects and Angelic Upstarts their first published plates.
1979 signed the group a contract with United Artists and released the single Jellyfish / Engine of Excess and the album Laughing Academy. In 1980, the single Secrets / Brain Bomb was published. The records sold relatively well and received favorable reviews.
After a lengthy European tour, the band went into the studio to record the next album. During the recording of the record company United Artists were taken over by EMI, which dropped the band.
2007, over 30 years after its founding, the band gave a jubilee concert.
