Punta Gorda (Belize)

Punta Gorda ( 5,155 inhabitants) is the southernmost town in Belize (Central America), on the border with Guatemala and also the capital of the province of Toledo.

The city was founded by Garifuna, still make up the majority population - the rest are mestizos, Mayan descendants, Creoles, etc.

PG - Punta Gorda as called by locals - is a starting point to explore the Mayan ruins to visit or take Rainforest Tours ( eg Lubaantun ).

Since Punta Gorda is the end of the road connecting the north-east, there is also no road connection to Guatemala, although Livingston would be only about 20 km as the crow flies. However, there is a daily, 1 ½ hour crossing way by boat to Puerto Barrios.
