Puu

Punu (also Ipounou, Ipunu, Pouno, Puno, Yipounou and Yipunu ) is a Bantu language and is spoken by the approximately 132 060 Bapunu in Gabon and the Republic of Congo ( census 2000).

It is widespread in Gabon in the provinces of Nyanga and Ngounié in the area around Ndende and Tchibanga with about 123,000 speakers, and in the Republic of Congo in the Niari region on the border with Gabon with about 9060 speakers.

Punu is written in the Latin script.

Classification

Punu is a Northwest Bantu language and is part of the Sira Group, which is classified as Guthrie Zone B40.
