Pura Luhur Batukaru

Pura Luhur Batukaru is a temple complex in Tabanan on the Indonesian island of Bali. The building complex is situated 817 meters above sea level on the southern slopes of Mount Batukaru, Bali's second highest volcano. The temple is one of Bali's six national sanctuaries and one of the nine ' Kayangan Jagat " which protect the island from evil spirits. Originally built in the 11th century, the plant was dedicated to the ancestors of the Rajas. In 1604 the temple was destroyed and rebuilt in 1959.

The main shrine of the temple is a seven Meru, which is located in a rectangular lake and Mahadewa is dedicated to the "spirit of the mountain" Batukaru. Both the lake and the him feeding source is considered sacred and healing, bathe in it is strictly prohibited.

The overgrown and partially moss-covered temple is a very holy place for Balinese and Hindu population. Many areas of the plant are locked on ceremonial occasions and ceremonies for tourists. The temple is located at the first stop on the summit ascent to Mount Batukaru. A pilgrimage to the summit takes place once a year, during which thousands of believers at the same time share the trail.
