Purakaunui Falls

The Purakaunui Falls are a cascade of several waterfalls of Purakaunui River in the Catlins on the South Island of New Zealand. While the drop is only 20 m, but they serve as a landmark for Southeast New Zealand.

The waterfalls are 17 km southwest of the town of Owaka and 5 km from the mouth of the river located in the Pacific Ocean.

They are isolated in the bush in a 5 -acre nature reserve and can be hiked on a well-marked path, which can be reached by car via a branching off from the main road between Owaka and Invercargill slopes. The Purakaunui Falls are a station on the Southern Scenic Route.

The waterfalls are shown on a New Zealand stamp of 1976.
