Pure Instinct is the thirteenth studio album by the German hard rock band Scorpions, released in 1996. After the departure of drummer Herman Rare Bell Curt Cress was hired for the recording of this album. This was replaced in the year 1996 for the subsequent tour of the U.S. American James Kottak, who is the drummer of the Hanoverian solid band to this day.

Musical Style

Musically Pure Instinct is a stark contrast to previous album Face the Heat ( 1993). The songs on this album are much more contemplative and balladry. The songs are mainly to rock ballads that are equipped with melodic and restrained guitar arrangements.

The album cover shows a naked man and a naked woman who are imprisoned together with various animals in a cage.
