Pure Instinct is the thirteenth studio album by the German hard rock band Scorpions, released in 1996. After the departure of drummer Herman Rare Bell Curt Cress was hired for the recording of this album. This was replaced in the year 1996 for the subsequent tour of the U.S. American James Kottak, who is the drummer of the Hanoverian solid band to this day.

Musical Style
Musically Pure Instinct is a stark contrast to previous album Face the Heat ( 1993). The songs on this album are much more contemplative and balladry. The songs are mainly to rock ballads that are equipped with melodic and restrained guitar arrangements.
Songwriting and features of texts
The arrangements and the musical style of the songs adapts to the texts. The majority of the texts is very thoughtful and emotional. Many texts deal with different phases of love. Be, for example, by separation ( Does Anyone Know), the anticipation for the " first time " ( You and I) love at first sight (When You Came Into My Life ) and the love after numerous failed love affairs (Oh Girl ( I Wanna Be With You) ). The song Are You the One? was written by Klaus Meine for Bonnie Tyler under the title You're the One and is represented here in a slightly modified version.
Album Cover
The album cover shows a naked man and a naked woman who are imprisoned together with various animals in a cage. The woman also holding an infant in his hand and is located in the left corner of the cage, another person who is, however, only be seen from behind. Around the cage can be seen outside the cage even more animals. For example, a zebra, a tiger and a kangaroo. The background of this image is kept in a mixed red. Criticism, sale and Awards

Other song versions and live recordings
On the Japanese version of the follow-up studio album Eye II Eye of the year 1999, the song You and Radio Remix I appeared in the so-called " Butcher". The song was also re-interpreted in 2000 as part of their album Moment of Glory together with the Berlin Philharmonic. This version, however, is found only on the concert DVD, but not on the associated studio album. On their album, published in 2001 Acoustica (2001) appeared an acoustic version selfsame song.
