Puru is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Jõhvi ( Jõhvi vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description and History

The village has 79 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2012). It was first mentioned in documents in 1241 in Liber Census Daniæ.

The most famous son of the town is the Estonian theologian and politician Põld Peeter (1878-1930), who was born in Puru.
