Puruandiro is a city in the north of the Mexican state of Michoacan. It is the capital of the administrative municipality Puruandiro. The name means, in the language of the Purepecha " place of the boiling water " (because of the nearby hot springs ). In pre-colonial times it was part of the Purepecha Empire and was conquered by Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán in 1527 for Spain. The town charter was on June 16, 1858 by Epitacio Huerta under the name Puruandiro de Calderón.

Puruandiro is 1890 m and covers an area of 722 km ². The population of the municipality was 71,000 inhabitants, the city of 27,428 even in 2000.
