Pushmataha County, Oklahoma
Pushmataha County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Antlers.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Oklahoma and has an area of 3685 square kilometers, of which 66 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Latimer County, Le Flore County, McCurtain County, Choctaw County, Atoka County and Pittsburg County.
History
Pushmataha County was formed on 16 July 1907 as the original County of Choctaw country. It was named after the Pushmataha District in the territory of the Choctaw.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Pushmataha County 11,667 people in 4,739 households and 3,288 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 77.97 percent White, 0.82 percent African Americans, 15.59 percent Native American, 0.10 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.29 percent from other races groups; 5.16 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.64 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,739 households, 30.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.3 percent were married couples living together, 10.8 percent were single mothers. 30.6 percent were non-families, 27.9 percent of all households and 14.2 percent of households had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.94.
26.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.6 percent between 18 to 24, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44, 25.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 18.3 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 22,127, and the median income for a family was $ 27,808. Males had a median income of $ 25,509 versus $ 17,473 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,864. 18.8 percent of families and 23.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
